2000
Columbia Valley
Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2000 growing season was marked with much variability. Site selection was key. We saw some rain during the Merlot harvest and an early frost hit some vineyards. Grapes planted on good sites faired very well.

This wine abounds with aromas of toast, brown sugar, berries, and vanilla. On the palate, the blackberry is backed up with flavors of black cherry; traits the winemaker attributes to the fruit from the Horse Heaven Hills vineyards. The finish lingers on and on. This wine is very opulent and should cellar for another 5-7 years.

The 2000 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was released May 2003. It is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. The fruit was sourced from Alder Ridge, Andrews Horse Heaven, DuBrul, Phinny Hill, Sundance, and Whitestone vineyards. It was aged in 90% new French oak and 10% new American oak for 19 months. The alcohol by volume is 13.6%, pH is 3.47, and titratable acidity is .656 g/ml. It was bottled May 31, 2002 .

REVIEWS
87 The blend is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 4% Cab Franc. This is a fairly light, well-crafted wine, with strawberry and watermelon fruit, good balance and surprising length. It stresses elegance over power, but makes a good impression. —P.G.  (12/31/2002)

87 Firm, with refined berry, currant and herbal, slightly earthy notes on the finely tannic finish. Best from 2006 to 2009. --HS (9/30/2004)
